Gone are the days when a simple cup of hot coffee was served after the meals just like Classic Mexican Coffee, Spanish Coffee and Irish One. People are still fond of them but the new generation is more attracted over cocktails. Cocktails are special kind of Alchemy which creates a smooth and magical effect when coffee and alcohol get engaged over ice. Coffee does the work of adding a bitter yet chocolaty effect to the iced-alcohol. This refreshing drink is responsible for the resurgence of coffee cocktails in the coffee market. Initially, cocktail was used by college students for late study nights but now this trend has turned into an entirely new genre of libations which ranges from cold brew concoctions to spiked espresso shots.
I will share with you three cocktail recipes and one Iced Coffee Drink. Horchata Coffee, Espresso Martini and Mocha margarita are shaken Cocktails while Mint Mojito is a perfect iced coffee for non-alcohol drinkers.
Shaker
Before moving ahead I would like to tell about equipment used for shaking. You can use a cocktail shaker or a sturdy jar. I prefer using cobbler-style shaker set as suggested by Mixologist website. As the shaker is made from stainless steel, there is no risk of breaking the glass and above all, steel helps to chill the drink incredibly fast.
Coffee
Regarding which coffee to use, I would recommend using an espresso or extremely strong coffee. It is indeed the quality and flavor of coffee which can drastically enhance the flavor and taste of final product.
So, Let’s Begin exploring the delicacy of coffee.
1. Horchata Coffee Cocktail: A refreshing mix of rum, Horchata, coffee and cinnamon.
Taste of Horchata is more like sweet coconut milk. Yes!! It’s a milky drink made from ground almonds, rice and tigernuts. It is available easily in the grocery stores and is found in both liquid and powder form. You can make it at home as well.
Ingredients:
2 ounces Horchata
1 ounce rum (either white or dark)
3 ounces of espresso or strong coffee
Grounded cinnamon
Crushed ice
Combine all the ingredients except cinnamon powder in a cocktail shaker and SHAKE!!! SHAKE!!! SHAKE!!!! Now strain it in a glass (6-8 ounce capacity) over ice. Sprinkle some cinnamon powder over it and serve Chilled.
2. Mocha Margarita: An energizing combination of tequila, espresso and chocolate Ice cream
This is again a very easy recipe and is prepared in just 3 minutes. Let’s look at the ingredients.
Ingredients:
2 ounces espresso or very strong coffee
1 ounce white tequila
½ cup softened chocolate ice cream
Crushed Ice
Salt and sugar mixture
Procedure:
Take a 6 ounce glass and rub its rim gently with tequila. Now invert it and dip it in the mixture of salt and sugar to coat properly. Now take all the ingredients in the cocktail shaker (except sugar and salt mixture) and shake it well until the ice cream gets lump-free and is in a pourable condition. Now serve it chilled in the Margarita Glass you prepared.
3. Espresso Martini: Fell in love with this classic combination of coffee and vodka topped with java with a touch of sweetness.
This classic recipe is well known in creating a refreshing impact on the drinker. Espresso Martini requires a perfect blend of vodka, espresso and coffee liqueur. People on diet or who are saving calories can even enjoy this with or without sugar. This cocktail serves as a base for various variations of cocktail recipes made by adding different flavor syrups or chocolates or ice-creams.
I fact, if you are not having a simple syrup, you can easily prepare it at home. Quickly mix hot water with equal parts of sugar and allow it to cool. Syrup is ready!!!
Ingredients:
2 ounces espresso or very strong coffee
1 ounce coffee liqueur
3 coffee beans (for topping)
1 ounce Vodka
Crushed Ice
½ ounce simple syrup
Procedure:
Combine all the ingredients in the shaker except the three coffee beans. Shake it vigorously and strain it in a martini glass. Top it with three coffee beans and serve Chilled!!!
4. Mint Mojito: A perfect cup of iced coffee for non cocktail drinkers
Well I use some specific tools for making this magical drink. These are:
Equipments:
Chemex 6 cup
Pour over coffee maker
Water kettle
Coffee filter
Muddler
Gram scale (to get the precision of ingredients)
Ingredients:
60 grams medium roasted freshly ground coffee
2 cups of ice
500 ml water
Fresh mint leaves
4 tsp sugar
Milk
Procedure:
Add ice to your mug
Add coffee to the filter and shake the coffee dripper for even settling of coffee
Pre-infuse the coffee and finish off the brewing process.
Muddle together mint leaves (say 10 leaves) and raw sugar until they are crushed and fragrant.
Add coffee into a pitcher and then add sugar and mint concoction and stir it continuously.
Add ice and top it with a creamy layer of milk and few mint leaves.
Serve Chilled.
To make it tastier you have to be a little patient then. The more the coffee stays in the mug, the more delicious it turned out to be. In fact, keeping the sugar and mint concoction for few minutes in the refrigerator is worth a try.
I hope you enjoyed all the four recopies and Let me know in the comment section below.
